CRUISE IDENTIFIER:  HLY1203

PROJECT TITLE: Assessing the Western Arctic Boundary Current and its role in the Arctic ecosystem and climate change.

CRUISE DATES: October 5 – 24, 2012

CHIEF SCIENTIST:
Robert S. Pickart
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Mail Stop 21
Woods Hole, MA 02543

DESCRIPTION OF SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM:

To answer the following questions:

What dictates the strength of the boundary current and how does it change from year to year?

What is the lateral exchange of properties across the current and is this affected by storms, currents instabilities, and ice cover?

What are the impacts of the exchange on the ecosystem, including marine mammal occurrence on the shelf and slope?

CTD data from  stations 1 through 82 are reported as one-decibar pressure-averaged profiles and include measurements of:

Parameter, Units

Pressure,  decibars

Primary Temperature, degrees C

Secondary Temperature, degrees C

Primary Salinity, PSU

Secondary Salinity, PSU

Oxygen, current SBE 43 [volts]  (primary)

Delta Oxygen voltage/Delta Time

Oxygen, milliliters/liter

Water Sample Data:

Water sample measurements of Salinity were taken at all stations.  Files are named identically to the CTD stations where they were taken, i.e., 001.cnut, 002.cnut, etc.

Files are self-documenting ascii files containing CTD temperature and salinity measurements at sample depths and corresponding salinity measurements from bottle sample analysis.
